Kraken Launches Prime Brokerage Platform for Institutional Crypto Clients
Crypto exchange Kraken has launched Kraken Prime, a full-service prime brokerage platform built specifically for institutional investors in the digital asset space.
The new offering consolidates trading, custody, financing, and multi-venue liquidity access into a single, streamlined interface. Kraken says Prime is designed to meet the execution quality, compliance, and reliability standards traditionally expected from legacy finance.
“We may not be the first to market,” said Kraken co-CEO David Ripley, “but we’re setting the bar for institutional crypto. Our edge is quality, reliability, and consistency — especially in volatile markets.”
Key Features of Kraken Prime:
- Access to liquidity across 20+ global venues, covering over 90% of the digital asset market
- Smart order routing system for both on- and off-platform execution
- Trades directly from qualified custody, managed by Kraken Financial, a US state-chartered bank
- Asset-backed lending and T+1 credit facilities
- 24/7 client support from an experienced institutional team
The move comes as hedge funds, asset managers, and corporates increasingly enter the crypto space, driven by improving regulation and maturing infrastructure.
“Institutions are looking for partners who bring technical sophistication and institutional-grade compliance,” the company said. “Kraken Prime was built from the ground up to deliver exactly that.”
Kraken’s launch follows its recent acquisition of futures broker NinjaTrader, and plans to expand into equities trading—a broader play to become a multi-asset platform for professionals.
